Scottish Parliament Broadcasting Unit Holyrood Highlights [Behind the Scenes Video]
This week I was on a work placement with the Scottish Parliament's Broadcasting department which gave me an insight into what is involved in producing a programme for Broadcast. I went behind the scenes to find out more.
In Spring, 2009 I had to source a work placement to complete a module for my HND Film & Television Production course which I completed at Jewel & Esk College in Edinburgh, Scotland and Eskbank between 2007 and 2009. I initially emailed local production companies, offering a variety of skills but really offering my help for three days in an attempt to gain a placement for my placements module to gain work experience.
Within this video we meet Douglas Carter, Holyrood Highlights Camera Operator and Editor getting to view where the camera equipment is stored and we get to view an interview with local MP, Michael Matheson, SNP. We also get to meet Andrew Johnston, Holyrood Highlights, Producer/Presenter and Michael Matheson who at the time was deputy convener of the European and external relations committee.
During the work placement I got to view the main Parliament chamber and shown how an autocue is operated. I was lucky to meet with BBC's Alan Meldrum who provided me with a great insight into the technicalities of how it all works. Along with the team, I observed an interview wth SNP Andrew Welsh who gave a gloomy look on the economic status for the upcoming years.
I was able to view an interview with Jeremy Purvis who was a local democrat member of the Scottish Parliament. As part of Holyrood Highlights video packages are recorded which are then edited together with the interviews recorded and with footage recorded from the main chamber to present an update on the latest main news topics being discussed within politics.
